Facilitating educational maturity.

"Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I will know."

Concept Statement:

The Bloom School seeks to instill educational maturity in people of all ages. We feel that this is accomplished when a student takes ownership over their education. A student takes ownership when curriculum has been personally created with the guidance of a counselor.

Why the Bloom School:

There are numerous facilities around the country that help people realize their innate gifts and talents. These are commonly called, aptitudes. However, upon completion participants are given few resources to apply the testing results to educational pursuits. The Bloom School works with students to development an "Educational Planî based on aptitude testing from centers such as the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation.

We believe that each and every student learns in a different manner. Many schools today have blanket, boilerplate solutions to curriculum instruction. This often produces pupils that think alike, thus conducting themselves just as every other product of the institution.

When you allow a person to custom design a program of study, with the input of a curriculum counselor, you empower the student to take ownership over their course of study. This ownership is when we feel that a sense of educational maturity envelops the learning process.

Aptitudes:

Aptitudes are natural talents, special abilities for doing, or learning to do, certain kinds of things. Manual dexterity, musical ability, spatial visualization, and memory for numbers are examples of such aptitudes. In a comprehensive battery of tests these and many other aptitudes can be measured. These measured traits are often highly stable over long-term periods.

Every occupation, whether it is engineering, medicine, law or management uses certain aptitudes. The work you are most likely to enjoy and be successful in is work that uses your aptitudes. For example, if you are an engineer but possesses aptitudes not used in engineering, your work might seem unrewarding. If you lack the engineer's aptitudes, your work may be difficult or unpleasant.

Aptitude testing is one tool for career selection. It can help you find where your aptitudes lie, what type of work uses those aptitudes, and why certain occupations may be more rewarding for you than others. When these are discovered, the next logical step is employment counseling or curriculum development.
